 PROGRAMS:

  1. SENIOR COMPANION PROGRAM

This program was reinstated in April of 2017.We are presently serving 10 senior citizens. Our senior companions serve the elderly and the sick and shut-ins of Wesley to give them the gift of friendship and help them to maintain their independence and quality of life with dignity. On a monthly basis supportive services are provided to the elderly to meet their basic needs. Based on the needs identified, visits to the doctor, shopping, visiting, bathing, dressing, telephone calls, care packages, birthday cards, etc. are also provided

  2. FOOD ASSISTANE PROGRAM

We are delivering 24 bags of food (high protein) to senior members and some community members twice monthly; the Mondays following the first and third Saturdays. Holy Spirit Catholic Church provides the bulk of the items and our outreach ministry through the senior companion funds adds fruits, vegetables and goodies to the bags on the third Monday each month. This program was initiated in July of 2021. This program is being led by Bettye Robinson, Alfreda G. Legare, Retha Jenkins, Evelyn Brown and Emma Deas.

  3. GREETING CARDS PROGRAM

Get well cards are sent to the sick, encouragement cards are sent to the homebound and to our seniors and sympathy cards are sent to families who are grieving. This ministry is led by Retha Jenkins and Lorrettta Saunders.

  4. EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE PROGRAM

This program assists members and non-members when funds are available. Members and non-members may contact our outreach chairperson, Lorretta Saunders, for assistance and for referrals to other agencies for assistance. There is an Outreach Ministry Resource Manual in the library that can be used for assistance.

  8. CHRISTMAS DINNERS, BASKETS or GIFTS

Originally, the senior citizens were taken out to dinner on the Sunday before Christmas or were given fruit baskets. However, in 2009 outreach ministry initiated a churchwide Christmas dinner for everyone the Sunday before Christmas right here at the church. Presently during COVID-19, a Christmas gift is provided to each client of our senior companion program.

DISASTER RELIEF ASSISTANCE

Outreach ministry always provides assistance whenever there is a local, national and international disaster. Retha Jenkins and Evelyn Brown always help the chairperson in leading in these efforts.

FEEDING THE MULTITUDE

Outreach Ministry has worked with this initiative since its inception 16 years ago.  Most of the churches on Johns and Wadmalaw Islands provide food, prayer and entertainment to persons on the Island on the Saturday before Thanksgiving. Easter LaRoche is one of the persons who represents Wesley each year.
